March 1 was proclaimed the International Community School Day on the 13th of October 2000by the participants of the International Conference "Community schools and education policy in transition countries in the 21st century". The conference participants were from Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tadzhikistan, Kazakhstan, and the USA. The goal of the International Community School Day is to draw attention to the work of community schools on community development, establishing partnership relations among community schools on the local, national and international levels.

In 2009 we invite community schools from different countries to join the event “Community Schools Through Children's Eyes”. Thanks to this event community schools will have an opportunity to tell each other about themselves, exchange drawings, letters and photos (See Appendix 1 for details).

PARTICIPANTS

Any community school willing to take part in this event should fill in the application form (see appendix 1). 

DATES

Application forms should be sent to Coordination Committee in Russia, e-mail kccp@kccp.ru till February 3, 2009.                                                                                                                                         

“PEN-FRIEND” SCHOOL

On the 1^st of February Coordination Committee of Community Schools Resource Centers will decide pairs of schools which will write to each other. Each school will receive a postal address of the school it is going to write to. The results will be posted at the Community School Movement Internet -site http://cs-network.ru 

CONTENT OF THE LETTER

You can send in the envelope to another school some children's drawings, photos or essays which present your school as a community school. We would like to draw your attention that letters by mail should be sent not later than February 15, so that schools in other countries get your letters before March, 1. 

PRESENTATION

When you get letters from your pen-friends, you can organize a presentation/exhibition of the things you received. Also you can write about this event at the Community School Movement Internet -site http://cs-network.ru
