March 1 was proclaimed the International Community School Day on the 13th of October 2000 by the participants of the International Conference "Community schools and education policy in transition countries in the 21st century".
March 1 was proclaimed the International Community School Day on the 13th of October 2000 by the participants of the International Conference "Community schools and education policy in transition countries in the 21st century". The conference participants were from Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tadzhikistan, Kazakhstan, and the USA.
The goal of the International Community School Day is to draw attention to the work of community schools on community development, establishing partnership relations among community schools on the local, national and international levels.
What can be organized on the International Community School Day:
- Seminars, round-tables for parents and residents,
- Presentations of the schools’ services,
- The informing of communities about the schools activities,
- The expressing of gratitude to activists and partners,
- Awards with badges, ties, etc.,
- Sports events,
- Shows and performances,
- Films,
- Exhibitions (photos, drawings, etc.),
- Concerts,
- Competitions (essays, poems, etc.),
- Organization of tea-drinking for community members,
- Articles in the mass media.
In 2007 the International Community Schools Day was celebrated by community schools and resource centres, local authorities, NGOs and individuals in 25 Russian regions: Altai, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk and Primorsky territories, Amur, Arkhangelsk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Ivanovo, Ikrutsk, Kemerovo, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Penza, Samara, Tomsk, Tyumen and Ulyanovsk regions, as well as Republics of Altai, Buryatia, Karelia, Khakassia, Tatarstan and Chuvashia.

KCCP is glad to announce an essay contest, which has already become a good tradition to celebrate the International Community Schools Day. Students of community schools in all Russian regions are invited to participate!
The Russian Coordination Committee 2007
The Committee 2007 has been formed by coordinators of the community schools movement in 8 Russian regions: Republics of Altai, Khakasia and Chuvashia, Arkhangelsk, Volgograd and Kemerovo oblast, as well as Krasnoyarsk and Promorskiy krai.
